Dowland gilt als der große Melancholiker des Elisabethanischen Zeitalters. Mit seiner Kunst bezaubert er Menschen heute wie damals. Der große Wunsch eines Postens am englischen Königshof bleibt ihm allerdings lange verwehrt.
